Zika Virus

Description

Zika virus is a recent epidemic that has caused intense fear in the world community, originating in South America and spreading throughout the western hemisphere. the virus is known to exist in the Americas , Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. Zika is known to cause congenital brain abnormalities, including microcephal, in pregenant women

Symptoms

Can cause mild illness, those infected usually suffer from a slight fever and skin rashes

possibly accompanied by muscle and joint pain

symptoms can usually last about 2 to 7 days

Causes

Zika virus is transmitted through a mosquito bite. the mosqutio species, Aedes aegypti, is a tropical variant also know for carrying dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever

Treatment

The symptoms of Zika will usually go away on their own after a short period and usually require no intensive care or treatment. it is advised that those infected get plenty of rest and fluids
