ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY | 7 BSc Environmental Science (Single Honours) BSc Environmental Science ((Combined Honours) BSc Environmental Science (Major/Minor) Our single honours degree programme in Environmental Science provides you with an in-depth, scientific approach to the study of local to global-scale environmental problems, including climate change, water pollution, food security, soil management, energy resources, pollution and conservation. The course is interdisciplinary and draws on the expertise of scientists within the disciplines of life sciences, chemical sciences, soil science and geosciences to emphasise the role and importance of scientific understanding and practical skills in the analysis and management of environmental problems. We place strong emphasis on the development of field and laboratory skills throughout the degree programme, with hands-on experience gained in using industry- standard equipment. The course is firmly anchored in the natural sciences, but also includes optional modules from the social sciences. No previous knowledge of environmental science is required and we also consider applications from students who have not taken a science subject at A-level. This course is available as a 3-year single honours degree, a 4-year ‘with work-placement year’, or a 4-year ‘with International Year’ degree programme. Our combined honours degree programme in Environmental Science provides students with the opportunity to broaden their interests by combining their studies with a second subject such as Biology, Physical Geography, Geography or Chemistry, or indeed one of the many other subject combinations available. The course focuses on the application of environmental science techniques and knowledge to address environmental issues such as climate change, water pollution, biodiversity loss and food security. We place strong emphasis on developing the practical laboratory and field-based skills which enables students to develop a wide range of both subject- specific and transferrable skills to take into future employment. This programme is available as a 3-year combined honours programme, a 4-year combined honours ‘with work- placement year’, or a 4-year ‘with International Year’ degree programme. If you follow a combined honours route, combining your Environmental Science with another subject, you have the option of dropping that other subject in your third year, to focus entirely on your Environmental Science subject. This would be called a major route in Environmental Science, and your other subject would be your minor route. For some of our combined honours combinations you also have the option of doing it the other way around: focusing on your other subject and moving away from Environmental Science in your third year, so that Environmental Science would then be your minor subject. Of course we hope that you will go the other way, loving the Environmental Science right through your degree, but the choice is always yours! keele.ac.uk/gge
