5.2 National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS)
5.2.1 About NOSS
A job categorised within the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) stipulates the
required competencies and skill level expected of a skilled employee for that particular
occupational area. It also defines the career structure and level of an occupation and the
pathway to achieve the stated competency level.
NOSS is developed based on the occupational needs of the industry and serve as a guidance
for the development of curricula and training programs. The skills development chain is
depicted in Figure 5-1 and a summary of the NOSS development and approval process is
illustrated in Figure 5-2.
