Labour Productivity
In 2016, the average labour productivity per worker of the surveyed companies increased 4.6%
to RM91,504 from RM87,486 in the previous year. The average labour productivity per hour
worked also grew at the same rate from RM34.58 to RM36.17. (See Appendix 3.6 for further

Key Trends
The MedDev sector has seen continuous new investments and expansions from domestic and
foreign industry players e.g. Boston Scientific Corp, Fresenius Medical Care, Paramit, Top
Glove, Japan Lifeline etc., and this trend is expected to remain in the upcoming years with
investors showing strong confidence in the industry outlook. Within the surgical / medical
gloves segment, the industry continues to consolidate further with big players like Top Glove
acquiring the smaller players as part of its business growth plan. One of the new trends
expected to be seen within the MedDev sector in Malaysia is the introduction of halal
certification for medical devices by the third quarter of 2018. (See Appendix 2.4 for more
