In the September 2013 issue of Entrigue Magazine we
introduced you to one of the most sought after classical
and jazz flutists in the country, Kim Scott. Kim Scott was
born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2011 Kim Scott
introduced herself to the world with her debut CD “Crossing
Over”, and re-introduced herself with her sophomore CD,
“Rite of Passage” which was released May 18, 2013. In this
issue we take some time to ask Scott a few questions. Pick up

The Interview:
DB: At what age did you pick up a flute and
began practicing?
KS: I picked up the flute at age 10 and haven’t
put it down since!
DB: What training or schooling prepared you for
this amazing career that has also made you such
the sought after flutist?
KS: I was brought up in a musical home as my
mother is a retired music teacher and pianist and
my dad played the sax. My mom gave me my
first training and was essential in helping me
develop a good ear. After that, I went to a
performing arts high school (Alabama School of
Fine Arts) and received a Bachelors in Flute
performance and a Masters in Pedagogy and
Performance of Music. All my life I’ve tried
to put myself in line with what could help me
become a better musician.
DB: Is there someone or something
that influences the music you
create?
KS: I create music influenced by how I’m feeling
at the time I’m playing it. I really strive to be
authentic and true to who I am as a person and
