GLOW
In short, the protagonist has two
axes in the plot: her journey to
become a recognized actress and
her troubled relationship with
former best friend Debbie, played
by Betty Gilpin. The only really
well-developed trait in Ruth is her
almost pathological insecurity,
partly a result of self-esteem
undermined
by
professional
contempt. Ruth suffers to pay the
bills, suffers from the mediocre job
opportunities and suffers from the
complicated love choices. The
young
woman
fucks
Debbie's unsalted husband, Mark
(Rich Sommer), after vicious
perversions that only result from a
peak of insecurity in the girl's life. It
is a premise that guarantees
humanity for the protagonist: she
is not simply someone who misses or hits, but someone who has a background and is
fallible as every human being on a greater or lesser scale. The problem is that this does not
evolve at all. The relationship between Ruth and Debbie orbits around Mark, a subject
extremely unattractive physically and intellectually, from the first to the last episode.
