while he was impersonating her in his
Las Vegas act. Joan and Frank reconciled
and appeared on television together in
later years. In 1986 Joan was given her
own talk show, The Late Show Starring
Joan Rivers on the newly launched Fox
Television Network. This put a strain on
the relationship between Joan and her
long time mentor, Johnny Carson, who’s
Tonight Show Joan would be competing

The Joan Rivers Show would enjoy a five
year run and win Joan a Daytime Emmy
in 1990 for Outstanding Talk Show Host.
In 1994 Joan and her daughter Melissa
hosted the E! Entertainment Television
pre-awards show for The Golden Globes
Awards. In 1995 Joan began hosting the
annual Academy Awards pre-show.
Joan would co-write and start in a play
influenced by comedian Lenny Bruce
about his mother Sally Marr who was
also a stand-up comedian. Twenty seven
previews and 50 shows later Joan would
go on to be nominated for a Drama Desk
Award (Outstanding actress in a play)
and a Tony Award (Best actress in a
play).
Joan remained relevant in the 2000’s by
accepting a three year contract to cover
awards shows for the TV Guide Channel.
Rivers would go on to appear in even
more television shows in the US, Canada
and in the UK. She had her own jewelry
line The Joan Rivers Collection which
she sold on QVC.
Joan would continue to appear on
television and do stand up until she
received throat surgery and experienced
complications and stopped breathing.
