Yes ! This is my favorite part . ( Seeing the movement and career highs artists are getting from their own outreach and the relationships they ’ re building with bloggers that will benefit them for years to come .)
LA duo Icons 2 Ashes recently secured a premiere in PopDust for their single , “ Lights Awn ” ft . Keisha Henry .
Victoria Blade was an incredibly dedicated student and received three placements during her release week in June ( Left Bank Magazine , Arts ATL , Audio Femme ). She ’ s a great example of the importance of building relationships with the media . Audio Femme covered her again in August .
Trance producer Elated , was invited to do an in-studio radio session with a local Canadian station . From there , he secured a review in internationally-known music blog Dance Music Northwest and a collaboration with an iconic producer in his space . ( Producer ’ s name is confidential until 2020 - I can ’ t wait to share this one !)
can become involved with more organizations like The Nest Society . We ’ ll definitely be hearing from these kids again !
My other hope is that publicity in general won ’ t be considered a swear word ! (... haha .) I want artists to be comfortable with what PR is , how it can elevate their careers , and feel empowered to be able to implement DIY strategies from the very beginning ! Then , when they get to the point of hiring a team , they are confident in the person they choose to take over these responsibilities . Over the past few years , the music industry has shifted in favor of the independent artist . There are so many more opportunities for indies to find success ( blogs , playlists , podcasts ) and my hope is that learning the DIY Music PR strategy will be a piece of the puzzle in helping many artists feel empowered . My life ’ s goal is to help as many people as possible to live fulfilled lives - spending their days doing ( and making lots of money at ) what they love : creating music !

Decatur , from Denver , just played the biggest show of their career opening for Candlebox . This is actually a great example of the ripple effect . PR is obviously not 100 % responsible for this booking . However , winning Westword Magazine ’ s Reader ’ s Choice Award for “ Best New Band in Denver ” ( part of their last PR push ) certainly didn ’ t hurt when the bookers were considering the band to perform !
What type of impact do you see your program making in the future of indie artists ?
I was recently invited to speak at The Nest Society which is a nonprofit in Compton , Cali . that connects inner city youth with mentoring from music industry professionals . The kids leave the program with a well-rounded skill set in all areas of the industry and , I ’ m telling you , the special sense of community this place provides is irreplaceable . I can ’ t express how inspired I was by these kids and their willingness to learn the DIY approach - and their talent ! ( They all performed after the mentoring session .)
PR takes time but is not rocket science . Having both the knowledge base and passion for your craft make an artist unstoppable . That ’ s what programs like these do for kids and I hope the DIY Music PR Bootcamp
