Coronavirus has caused many uncertainties around the globe , one of which has been the need for pet care within the homeless community . One Californian duo has decided to tackle this problem directly with the help of volunteers and veterinarians .
ElleVet Sciences ’ CEO and co-founder , Christian Kjaer , and co-founder , Amanda Howland , started the Pets in Need Project mid-May to focus on pets who did not have food security and / or medical attention . So far this project has garnered mass attention from the media and celebrities such as Judy Greer and Demi Moore .
ElleVet was just an idea until it came to life in 2016 . Christian Kjaer was an executive at Westbrook , Maine-based IDEXX laboratories before he partnered with Howland to make ElleVet Sciences what it is today . His background in business is what led him to create a successful business strategy behind ElleVet and pull it apart from other similar companies in the market . Amanda Howland brought her 20 years of experience with public health research and marketing and was instrumental in ElleVet ’ s first clinical trials . Together they formed ElleVet Sciences in 2016 and brought to life the Pets in Need Project under ElleVet in 2020 . supplies has been traveling around California for 8 weeks , traveling from Skid Row in Los Angeles to Tenderloin in San Francisco .
Kjaer and Howland have also been working with city workers and volunteers to offer help to those in need . They , along with a team of professional volunteers , have been able to offer services including , but not limited to : vaccinations , deworming , flea , and tick prevention . Many people and pets have been positively impacted by this organization .
“ I couldn ’ t be prouder of our efforts here in California ,” Amanda Howland said about the Pets in Need Project . “ We have reached over 700 pets already and feel connected to the communities we have visited . We are making a real difference in the lives of so many pets and people .”
The Pets in Need Project will not be a temporary project during the pandemic , Howland also mentioned she planned to make this project a permanent charitable aspect of ElleVet Sciences . Aid to homeless pets and stray pets would be something available year-round for everyone in need . With their love for animals at the forefront of their goals , Kjaer and Howland have successfully been able to change the lives of pets everywhere .
