ENSPIRE MAGAZINE

Celebrated artist Jamil Charles , aka “ Kid Ape ”, is truly one to watch . The Miami native ’ s diverse background has helped to shape his creativity as his career in the art world continues to grow to new heights . At a young age in elementary and middle school , he realized that he had a gift for drawing and sketching . Over the years , throughout high school and college , he chose to step away from art , but as the stress of the corporate world took a toll on him , he decided to move his career in a different direction . As a visual artist , he decided to expand on his creativity , and , slowly but surely over the course of seven years , he wrote a book , which featured short stories that turned into a full fiction novel entitled Red Art City . In 2018 , Kid Ape turned Red Art City into an art business , painting portraits and visuals for clients in a variety of spaces . He took the initiative to send a canvas portrait to Chris Cunningham , who introduced him to his current business partner Eli Massillon , which was the beginning of so much more to come . Over the past few years , he has painted portraits and murals for Grandmaster Flash , Snoop Dogg , Steve Lobel , and Don Benjamin , just to

name a few . Now , as a highly in-demand artist , he has teamed up with Paint Puff “ N ” Peace , a cannabis store , and created a special mural inside its recreational center in Harlem , New York . His artwork in the new space adds the perfect touch to what
many call one hell of an experience . To see more of Kid Ape ’ s work or commission a portrait , follow him on social media @ RealKidApe . If you are in the NYC area and want to experience his work in person , follow @ PaintPuffNPeace .
