THE WORDS: A POWERFUL TOOL Juan Diego Diaz González
What do you want to be when you grow up? We have to think about this question since childhood, and the most of the times the answer changes with the time. When we are children, to be superhero, sportsman or singer are maybe our favorite options, but when we are teenagers the future is not very clear, and to choose a way is a very hard decision. This last situation was my case although now I have more clarity what I want to do with my life, and I have a better perspective of my future, the work that I want and the role that I will play in the society. Currently, I am studying philology a career that helps me so much with my purpose: being a writer. So, I am going to explain my vision about my relation with the society, and how by being someone who only writes over a piece of paper, I can change the way that a person thinks.
To make“ the best” decision about our future usually we consider many external factors as the opinion of our parents, friends, teachers, the person who is our example to follow and other people that- with advices- try to help us. Even, the movies or books are an important factor because these show us some situations that a person, with the profession that we want, must face. Words like“ an engineer earn very well”,“ this is a family of lawyers”“ look for a career that makes you happy” sometimes help us, but other times these words destroy us. Therefore, there are a lot cases of students that after a few semesters in a career they don ´ t feel love or passion for their future profession and end leaving the university or changing their academic road.
Also, there is the possibility that the students enter to a career with a wrong idea about this, and for this reason someone of them leave that option to take other course. However, other students like the career even more that the first idea they had about it. In my personal case, I am the first category of student.
