Level up means you’ve gained enough skills and experience to reach
the next level. It’s not for those interested in maintaining the status
quo. It’s for those interested in making moves. Here at OSOTA our
theme for the 19-20 school year is “Level UP.”
There are 4 main areas we have targeted to Level UP:
• Character Development & Emotional Intelligence
• Business & Community Connections
• Middle School & High School Experience
• Playground & Campus Facilities
Character Developement & Emotional Intelligence (K-12)
As moral standards decline, we are choosing to level up,
we consciously choose to grow. In the book Quiet by Susan
Cain, she shares a thought provoking analysis of what areas
we as humans were trying to grow and mature in, 100 years
ago contrasted with our current cultural focus. She looked at
self-help books from 100 years ago and identified the most
commonly used words. She found that people wanted to “be
more selfless, more courageous, have more integrity, be more
honest.” She did the same with self-help books from today
and found words like “charisma, funny, interesting, popular.”
She asserts that we have shifted from a culture of CHARACTER
to a culture of PERSONALITY. Here at OSOTA we talk with our
scholars about the difference between a culture of character
and a culture of celebrity.

"To be a scholar is a decision
of great magnitude... It is a
choice to see greatness in
others and demand it from
yourself. It is a choice to
inspire and go against the
grain. It is a choice to be the
light in an increasingly dark
world.”
