IS YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION ? My kids are my inspiration as they make me aware on a daily basis of the necessity to decarbonize our energy system and to live sustainably . They talk about climate change and related challenges in a very different manner compared to grown-ups , questioning our ways of doing . To my son thinks it is plainly stupid that we ( grown-ups , that is ) do things that cause animals to become extinct . And he is right .
ARE YOU READING THIS SUMMER ? The Overstory by Richard Powers , a large novel in which trees figure prominently – I already read parts of the novel that address how trees sense and communicate . I found that interesting – and I invite everyone to try and imagine how that works ! It challenged my anthropocentric me .
WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO BE THIS SUMMER IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE ? I would like to go camping near the Picos de Europa in Spain . But any other place outside in nature that offers silence , walking trails , swimming water and nice weather will do . So we will go where the coronavirus measures will allow us to go .
WOULD YOU ADVISE SOMEONE TO WORK IN THE ENERGY SECTOR ? Because energy is at the heart of life and society . I would particularly advise women to work in the energy sector , we need more gender-awareness in the energy sector and in the solutions that we come up with to address climate change .
