state attorney
primary. Foxx
became Chicago’s
first African-
American prosecutor
to oversee a $104 million
annual budget and more than 900 lawyers. She
ran on a platform that called for an independent
prosecutor in every police-shooting case,
active collaboration between public hospitals,
mental-health facilities and jails, and a smarter
approach to keeping juveniles out of the criminal
courts. Her work while in office is anticipated to
be transformative. Foxx aims to dismantle what
she has referred to as stagnate and dysfunctional
political and social systems.
