In the lands of Renaissance, a journey to discover the Great Genius of Leonardo da Vinci Tracing the roots of the Renaissance genius Day 4: Milan 5 Days/4 Nights Day 1: Florence • Arrival in Florence by own means and meeting with the guide. • Guided visit to Galleria Palatina and Museo degli Argenti at Palazzo Pitti: take the very same steps as the legendary figure of Leonardo, discover traces of his work and live again the atmosphere of his youthful places. • Guided visit to Museo del Bigallo to learn more about the major works of the leonardian school. • Guided visit to Museo Stibbert where many items linked to Leonardo enrich the museum collection of armouries, paintings, ceramics and costumes. • Guided visit to Sala del Gran Consiglio at Palazzo della Signoria where Leonardo’s masterpieces will not be found since they have been lost, but where can still find the following legend: it is told that Leonardo and Michelangelo were in competion, in which everyone should achive a fresco on a wall of the Sala del Gran Consiglio, Leonardo’s Battaglia di Anghiari, later covered by Vasari’s fresco and Michelangelo’s Battaglia di Cascina. • Stops in the different locations where it is possible to admire the Cenacoli Fiorentini of Andrea del Castagno (Sant’Apollonia), Perugino (Fuligno) and Domenico Ghirlandaio (Ognissanti): the paintings who inspired and influenced Leonardo in the creation of his Last Supper. Return to the hotel and overnight. Day 2: Vinci › Cerreto Guidi • Transfer by own means from Florence to Vinci. • Visit to the charming village and tour of the interesting Museo Leonardiano, one of the most appreciated museums in Tuscany: here you can uncover his greatest works and discoveries. • Visit to Leonardo Da Vinci’s native house, just outside the village, in the charming Tuscan landscape. • Transfer to Cerreto Guidi to visit the amazing Villa Medicea and its impressive rooms. • Visit to the center of Cerreto Guidi to live the beautiful atmosphere of the traditional Tuscan towns. • Return to the hotel and overnight. Day 3: Florence › Milan (300 km) • Guided visit to Galleria degli Uffizi: the tour will focus on Renaissance painting. Starting from Masaccio and Paolo Uccello, Piero della Francesca and Filippo Lippi, we will spend more time in front of Nascita di Venere and Primavera by Botticelli. The hall of Botticelli will allow an historical and cultural brief to introduce the sancta sanctorum of the Gallery, known as Leonardo da Vinci hall. • Guided visit to Leonardo Da Vinci hall: the genius of the italian master will be reflected inside his masterpieces including L‘Annunciazione, il Battesimo di Gesù and the recently restored l’Adorazione dei Magi. • Analysis of Tondo Doni by Michelangelo and Raffaello’s paintings, in order to catch the difference between these artists’ personalities. • Tour of Florence from Ponte Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti in time to visit Giardino di Boboli, ending to San Miniato al Monte Church to enjoy the beautiful Florence overview. • Transfer to Milan by own means. • Return to the hotel and overnight. Milan Vinci Cerreto Guidi 10 Florence • Guided visit to Pinacoteca Ambrosiana where the Atlantic Code, a twelve-volume with 1119 pages of drawings and writings is kept. Here you will be able to see a lot of artwork and the sketches that Leonardo did for his inventions, most of them where the base for the technology that we use now. During the tour you will be able to see also the painting Ritratto di Musico by Leonardo da Vinci and the Canestra di Frutta by Caravaggio. • Guided visit of Sala delle Asse inside Castello Sforzesco, residence of the Duke Ludovico Sforza who gave Leonardo the commission to design his military equipment. Leonardo also organized some events at the castle, using the machines he invented and leaving astonished all the guests by the beauty of the scenery he created. • Guided visit to the Vineyard of Leonardo in front of Cenacolo di Santa Maria delle Grazie. • Guided visit to The Last Supper (“l’Ultima Cena”) of Leonardo da Vinci, located in its original place, on the wall of refectory of the former Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. It’s one of Leonardo’s biggest art works not only by the technique but also for its psychological depth. Here you will see that Leonardo skillfully uses shadow and light to show the characters and what they represented. • Return to the hotel and overnight. Day 5: Milan • Guided visit to Piazza della Scala to admire the statue of Leonardo da Vinci, prominently displayed in front of the international temple of Belcanto. The monument offers a solemn and austere image of the scientist and at his feet there are four of his pupils.The statue is made of white Carrara marble, whilst granite from Baveno was used for the base. • Guided visit Piazza Duomo, the heart of Milan’s social, tourist and economic life, where the famous Cathedral, the most important Italian gothic opera, overlooks. The impressive Duomo di Milano is the third largest Catholic church in the world, behind San Peter Cathedral in Vatican and Sevilla Cathedral. Stop a little bit to appreciate the outside, then move inside to explore his latin cross plant, his large choir stalls and polygonal apse. • Guided visit to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, an indoor street connecting Piazza Duomo with Piazza della Scala. If you wish to return to Milan, the tradition suggests you have a spin with your heel on the mosaic bulls “attributes” that make up the pavement of the Galleria’s splendid central octagon. Once a gesture to ward off evil, it has become part of the Milanese tradition and has such a following that a deep hole has formed in the pavement. • Guided visit to Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia “Leonardo da Vinci”, the largest Italy’s science and technology museum dedicated to the great tuscan genius. The models in exhibition have been constructed following Leonardo’s drawings. These drawings are projects for machines but also outlines of already existing works, proposals for upgrading or studies of nature. In the Leonardo’s Gallery this collection of models is enriched by a series of drawings on his various interests and an exhibition that focus on his Milan’s years. • End of the tour and departure. * Extend your itinerary with two days in Paris, where Leonardo lived his final years.
