emissions and achieving sustainable development as part of the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The
landfill is designed to generate its own electricity to power the waste management operations
and is expected to reduce the green gas house
emissions of carbon dioxide by 250,000 each
year.
Also, in Malaysia in October 2012 an “Incentives for Green Growth guidebook” was
published to provide a conducive environment
for green technology development. The Guidebook details fiscal incentives available to
producers and users
of green technology in industrial and
commercial sectors.
Activities where incentives could apply
include recycling of
agricultural waste or
agricultural by-products, chemicals and reconstituted wood-based panel boards or products;
and proper facilities for storing, treating and
disposing of dangerous toxic and hazardous
waste. The highest form of incentive entitles a
company to an income tax exemption of 70%
of the statutory income for 5 years, as well as
allowing for unabsorbed capital allowances and
accumulated losses to be carried forward for
deduction past the 5 year pioneer status. This
may even be a 100% exemption for recycling
certain waste to energy activities.

CHMWEG and Enhesa Seminar
The aforementioned regulatory and enforcement examples provide the backdrop to which
CHWMEG approached Enhesa to jointly host
its seminar on “Recent Waste Management Developments in Europe” on 3rd December 2013.
The one-day seminar will provide analysis on
the impact of the regulatory changes on waste
producers. The program will include the latest
developments by the European Commission to
implement the Revised Waste Framework Di-

and information about how well-designed programs can help ensure proper stewardship of
wastes and recyclable materials derived from
manufacturers’ operations
Where Enhesa bring the regulatory and compliance perspective to waste issues, CHWMEG
are uniquely placed to bring together expertise
on waste management. For more information
