Tarrant County Offers Free Rides for Early Voting , Election Day

Throughout early voting and on Election Day , Tarrant County voters were able to catch free rides to the polls on Arlington ’ s Via and Handitran services , Trinity Metro , and other transit providers . Riders could ride for free to nearby polling locations by showing their voter registration card or current Texas ID .
The Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved a partnership with transportation services in Tarrant County to pay for customer trips to voting locations , with an amount not to exceed $ 20,000 .
“ We are trying to give every eligible voter in Tarrant County the ability to vote in the November 2020 election ,” said Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley . “ We are offering free rides on as many public transit providers as possible ,

— TARRANT COUNTY JUDGE including accessible services for the elderly and mobility-impaired as well as on-demand service in Arlington and Fort Worth . These rides will be available during early voting and on Election Day .”
“ Voting is an important right and we want to do our part to help voters get to the polls ,” Gensler said . “ We appreciate the Tarrant County Commissioners Court for funding this initiative .”

The transit services included in the program are Trinity Metro ’ s bus
routes , Near Southside ZIPZONE , Crowley ZIPZONE , Mercantile ZIPZONE , ACCESS paratransit , plus Tarrant County Transportation Services ( TCTS ), Northeast Transportation Services ( NETS ), and Arlington ’ s Via and Handitran . For ZIPZONE riders in Crowley and Near Southside , free rides were determined by the pickup ’ s or destination ’ s proximity to a voting location .

Arlington Begins Calender Road Improvements Between Curry Road and Harris Drive

On July 15 , 2020 , the Public Works and Transportation Department began construction to improve Calender Road , from Curry Road to Harris Drive . This project , which is part of the City ’ s Thoroughfare Development Plan , aims to rebuild Calender Road from a two-lane county type asphalt road to a threelane concrete road .
In addition to rebuilding the roadway , the project will also bring the following improvements to the area :
• Installation of sidewalks and streetlight improvements
• Construction of roundabouts at Curry and Kuykendall Road intersections
• Storm drainage infrastructure improvements
• Water and sanitary sewer infrastructure improvements
• Installation of two on-street bicycle lanes
Funding for this project was approved by Arlington voters as part of the $ 160 million street improvements package in the 2014 Bond Election .
