High lights Hyperloop Technology Stops at AT&T Stadium (continued) That idea prompted the Hyperloop One team to bring the pod to Arlington as part of a nationwide road show. Virgin says the tour allowed residents to see the pod firsthand and learn more about Texas’ progress to make hyperloop travel a reality. The company partnered with the Cowboys and the North Central Texas Council of Governments to show the technology at AT&T Stadium during scheduled stadium tours in early August. Local STEM students were invited as well. The Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Transportation Council has announced its intent to evaluate hyperloop technology in Texas. The agency has begun a hyperloop feasibility study which would include an Arlington station with access to DFW International Airport. “Our region is going to gain 3 million new residents within 25 years. In order to handle this mass influx of people, we need to explore projects that will modernize our transportation infrastructure,” said Michael Morris, P.E., Director of Transportation for the North Central Texas Council of Governments. “We are exploring hyperloop as a potential project that would connect millions of Texans faster, safer, and more efficiently.” South Collins Street Improvements Work on S. Collins Street improvements from Park Row Drive to Pioneer Parkway is planned for Fall 2019. This project consists of reconstructing the northbound and southbound outer lanes and replacing failed concrete panels in the inner three lanes of Collins Street. In addition to the roadway improvements, the project will also include the following improvements: • • • • Storm drain system Water and sanitary sewer lines Sidewalks New traffic signals, streetlights, street signs, and pavement markings • Underground City fiber conduit Funding for this project was approved by Arlington voters as part of the $160 million street improvements package in the 2014 Bond Election. 2
