Residential Street and Sidewalk Projects
The Public Works and Transportation Department will soon be
starting two new construction projects aimed at improving
roadways and aging public infrastructure in central Arlington.
Phase 2 of the 2017 Residential Rebuild project and the 2019
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Residential Street
and Sidewalks projects will bring much needed improvements
for residents on the targeted streets.
Work to be completed under Phase 2 of the 2017 Residential
Rebuild project will continue the rebuilding efforts begun in
spring 2018. Phase I of the project made improvements to
sections of Inwood, Southmoor, and Rayborn Drives and is
expected to be completed by May 2019. Phase 2 will consist of
water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater improvements, replacing
the asphalt road with a concrete roadway designed to last 50
years, and street light and sidewalk improvements on sections of
the following streets:
•
•
•
•
•
East Third Street (South Center Street to Mary Street)
Hosack Street (South Center Street to Mary Street)
Ray Street (South Center Street to Mary Street)
Rose Street (South Mesquite Street to Mary Street)
Mary Street (East Mitchell Street to Ray Street)
The 2019 CDBG Residential Street Rebuild and Sidewalk project will rebuild East Second Street from South
Cooper Street to Mary Street and Kelly Terrace from South Collins Street to East Park Row Drive. In addition to
roadway, water, sewer, stormwater, and street light improvements, this project includes the installation of new
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pedestrian ramps. Construction of this project is expected to
begin in spring 2019 and be completed by the end of the year.
Collins Street Widening Near Interstate 20
In May, the Public Works and Transportation Department
will begin transforming South Collins Street between
Mayfield Road and Interstate 20 (I-20) as part of a $4.5
million construction project designed to ease congestion
and improve infrastructure in southeast Arlington.
This project will consist of widening Collins Street
by constructing two additional lanes and adding
southbound right turn lanes at both Arbrook Boulevard
and I-20. Additional improvements include replacing
existing concrete panels as needed; adjusting water and
sanitary sewer facilities; replacing traffic signals, street
lights, pavement markings, street signs, sidewalks, and
fiber conduit; and median landscaping and irrigation
improvements. Construction is anticipated to be
completed in early 2020.
