HANDITRAN UPDATE

In the first quarter of FY2021 , Handitran continued to be a high demand service for Arlington residents . Handitran received a total of 33,827 trip requests this quarter and 54 % of these requests were completed . This resulted in a total of 18,414 trips provided . 3 % of trip requests were denied . On-time delivery was at 97 %. Of the trips completed , 27 % were provided by Handitran buses and 73 % were provided by partner taxi services . 20 % of trips were scheduled through a subscription and 80 % were on-demand .

VIA RIDESHARE SERVICE

The innovative Via rideshare service continues to grow . More than 490,000 rides have been taken on Via since the service rolled out in December 2017 , and interest stays strong , with more people creating accounts each week . Arlington , partnered with Via , is one of the first cities in the nation to offer on-demand ridesharing as an innovative public transportation solution . The service is designed to provide affordable transportation to key areas of Arlington , allowing riders to provide affordabke transportation throughout all of Arlington , access entertainment , shopping and dining options , work or school , and even medical appointments .
Customers can book a seat through the Via app , and Via ’ s sophisticated technology will match them with others going their way in a shared vehicle . Via is available Monday through Saturday , with service hours running from 6 a . m . to 9 p . m . on weekdays and 9 a . m . to 9 p . m . on Saturdays . In addition to the app , customers may call Via at 817-784-7382 to book a ride . Rides range from $ 3- $ 5 per person , per trip based on distance , and customers can purchase a weekly ViaPass for $ 25 per week .
To enhance safety during COVID-19 , Via performs daily professional cleaning of vans , has installed plexiglass barriers between driver and passenger spaces , and limits the number of passengers in each van .
