Handitran Update
In the first quarter of FY2020, Handitran continued to be
a high demand service for Arlington residents. Handitran
received a total of 63,275 trip requests this quarter and
65% of these requests were completed. This resulted
in a total of 40,926 trips provided. 5% of trip requests
were denied. On-time delivery was at 96%. Of the trips
completed, 27% were provided by Handitran buses and
73% were provided by partner taxi services. 20% of trips
were scheduled through a subscription and 80% were
on-demand. 744 trips connected riders to the regional
transit system at the TRE station.

Via Rideshare Service Update
The innovative Via rideshare service continues to grow. More
than 333,900 rides have been taken on Via since the service
rolled out in December 2017, and interest stays strong,
with more people creating accounts each week. Arlington,
partnered with Via, is one of the first cities in the nation
to offer on-demand ridesharing as an innovative public
transportation solution. The service is designed to provide
affordable transportation to key areas of Arlington, allowing
riders to access entertainment, shopping and dining options,
work or school, and even medical appointments.

Customers can book a seat through the Via app, and Via’s
sophisticated technology will match them with others going
their way in either a six-passenger Mercedes-Benz van or
a contract driver’s vehicle. Via is available Monday through
Saturday, with service hours running from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on
weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays. In addition to the
app, customers may call Via at 817-784-7382 to book a ride.
Rides are $3 per person, per trip, or customers can purchase a
ViaPass for a promotional rate of $15 per week.
