Free Transportation for Voting on Via and Handitran
Tarrant County is partnering with Via and Handitran to provide free rides for voting on upcoming 2020
election days. Free rides to voting locations are now available for early voting, from February 17 through
February 28, as well as for primary election day voting on March 3, 2020.
The free rides for voting program was first piloted on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, when Tarrant County
voters were able to catch free rides to the polls on seven transit services, including Arlington’s Via Rideshare
and Handitran services.
The Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved funding a partnership to pay several transportation
services in Tarrant County for customer trips to voting locations. Riders are required to present their voter
registration card or current Texas ID for a free ride on Handitran, while a promo code (ARLINGTONVOTE) is
available for free rides on Via.
“It is important that every eligible voter in Tarrant County has the opportunity to vote,” said Tarrant County
Judge Glen Whitley. “We have included as many public transit providers as possible within Tarrant County,
from accessible services for the elderly and mobility-impaired, to on-demand service in Arlington.”
The transit services included in the program are Trinity Metro’s fixed-route bus, TEXRail, ACCESS paratransit,
Tarrant County Transportation Services (TCTS), Northeast Transportation Services (NETS), and Arlington’s Via
and Handitran.
