BUSINESS PLAN HIGHLIGHTS

CITY COMPLETES IMPROVEMENTS TO HANOVER DRIVE , WINDERMERE DRIVE , AND VANDERBILT DRIVE ✅

After nine months of construction , the Public Works and Transportation Department ’ s project to improve Hanover Drive between Natches Drive and Windermere Drive and Vanderbilt Drive between Hanover Drive and Allen Avenue is complete .
In addition to rebuilding the asphalt roadway with 10,200 square yards of concrete to create a longer lasting and smoother roadway for drivers , other improvements completed include :
• Constructing 2,500 square yards of sidewalks with ADA compliant pedestrian ramps
• Improving 1,580 linear feet of storm drain infrastructure
• Improving 2,950 linear feet of sanitary sewer lines
• Replacing 140 water meters with new AMI water meters
• Replacing six streetlights and installation of new streetlights
The City uses an annual pavement survey program to inventory the condition of all streets within the city limits . The condition of each street segment is reported as an Overall Condition Index ( OCI ) Rating between 0-100 based on the “ ride ” and “ distress ” of the segment . Roads with a rating lower than 50 are called “ red streets ” and recommended for inclusion in the department ’ s Capital Improvement Program . Roads with a rating between 50 and 70 are called “ yellow ” streets and are included in the City ’ s Street Maintenance Program . Upon completion of construction , these sections of roadway had a revised OCI rating of 100 . This is a 64-point increase for Hanover Drive and a 75-point increase for Vanderbilt Drive from their preconstruction ratings .
This project is part of the City ’ s program to rebuild residential streets throughout the city that have deteriorated beyond general maintenance and aligns with City Council ’ s priorities to Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods . In addition to bond funds , the project was partially funded by a Community Development Block Grant . The City of Arlington has received this grant for more than 44 years and uses the funds to improve neighborhood infrastructure , parks , homes , and community services .
