From warm , gooey , chocolate chip cookies to smooth , creamy , mashed potatoes , butter is a staple in many delectable dishes . Although the average American consumes 23 sticks of butter in a year , we still seem to have mixed feelings on whether butter is good or bad for us to consume . But fear not , butter-lovers ; this oh-soyummy product isn ’ t as bad for you as you may think ! In fact , butter can be good for you !
As with any food , we need to be careful of how much butter we consume . Consuming anything in extreme amounts will have negative effects on the functionality of the body , regardless of what it is . To be honest , it probably wouldn ’ t hurt to scale back those 23 sticks of butter each year to a lower number . Butter has a bad reputation because of its link to poor heart and cholesterol health . It is known to increase both the good cholesterol ( HDL ) and the bad cholesterol ( LDL ), so if you are someone who has issues controlling your cholesterol levels , reducing animal fats from your diet is essential to maintaining your health . This includes meat sources and dairy sources , so give butter the boot !
