on the treadmill. It can also be
the boost you need to get you
through a tough workout.
I asked Jean Musumeci,
who also teaches Barre and
Step classes, how the fitness
instructors choose their
tunes. The tracks for the
Les Mills classes are preselected.
Otherwise there are instructor
websites with songs that have
roughly 136 beats per minute.
There must have been some
scientific testing done to arrive
at that number.
A quick scan around the
main room and the majority of
those working out are sporting
headphones. It makes perfect
sense. I struggle when I forget to
bring mine and miss the group
class I was attempting to get
into. When the right song comes
across my playlist I know it gives
me the proper bounce in my
step that makes me look vibrant.
So that brought me to a
burning question: “what
is everybody listening to
at HAC?” I’m sure that I
am not the only one
whose inquiring mind
wants to know. For
some people it is
pretty obvious - either because
they sing along under their
breath without realizing we can
