I'm from... and you??
In this activity the students will exchange information in a dynamic way. To achieve this purpose, the activity will be performed in groups of three in a second year high school class. The topic chosen comes from the book “Looking Ahead”, unit six, “Traditions, Traditions” given by the Ministry of Education. The objective is that the students will learn more about the different English speaking countries. They will be aware of the differences between one country and the other.
In the previous class, the teacher gave the students a list of English speaking countries. Each group picked a country, and they decided the subtopics for each member. Then, they researched information using library reference, interviews, visual media and internet.
Now, each group will exchange information with a different group. Therefore, each member of the group will talk about what he/she investigated with the integrant from a different group. The students will have fifteen minutes to exchange information. At the end, the students return to their original group and then present to the class what they learned from the other group research. For that reason, none of the groups will talk about what they researched in the previous class.
Students will not need extra material.
We tend to think that students do not work when they are organized in groups. However, we have learnt from the cooperative language teaching that group working is a significant and useful tool in teaching. The success of cooperative activities is based on group formation.
