As the United States becomes a more and more urbanized and industrialized country, more people are getting jobs than ever before. This is a great thing for the country economically. Unfortunately, as factories pop up across the country, citizens realize something. So many families still have trouble making it by despite the sudden occupational growth. If a family sends their children to work, the children will work for less pay than the adults; this is widely known as child labor. Child labor is a truly horrible thing. Many children working now will not receive proper education because they cannot go to school if they are working. Also, many children get terrible injuries when working in factories; the new machinery used is incredibly dangerous.
Child Labor began in the last fifty years or so, and the numbers of children working have rapidly progressed. By 1810 over two million children worked about twelve to sixteen hours a day. Children who worked had little to no time to play, rest, learn, or do much of anything. Many children often became ill. This shameful act of putting children to work must be stopped. Also, children do not get nearly as much pay as they deserve. Some children work fifty to seventy hours a week, but they only receive $7.70. For jobs that put children at such a risk, this is unfair, especially because most adults work the same and receive more pay.
Society, I think, will soon realize this despicable wrong-doing. Hopefully the country will stand behind me when I say child labor is a shameful practice. Imagine, for a moment, a generation of adults who are uneducated, and have no idea how to run a country. The United States will most likely sever all ties with other nationalities. Immigration will probably cease. Who wants to be part of a failing country? Is that the world we want our children to live in or be a part of? I should not think any of you would wish such a future on your children, therefore I conclude child labor may be the very thing that brings the country to its knees unless we put a stop to it early on
