Throughout 2012 and many decades ago, alcohol abuse and underage drinking has been affecting not only the person who consumes it, but also the people around them. Alcohol abuse is seen throughout United States and other countries, and can harm the consumer as well as physically. Not to mention that individuals completely enslaved to alcohol also affect their family and friends, thus creating a chain reaction of epic proportions. Alcohol is a drug that can be addicting to some people who can’t control their serious urges, and they begin to crave the side effects associated with drinking. This “drug” can cause the person lose control of their body, mind and do things, they regret in the future.
Data collected from 2008-2010 for undergoing drinking has reported that people 12-20 have been surveyed, and 26 percent have drink in the last month, not only that, but 9 percent have bought their own drinks. Alcohol drinking has been banned for people under the age of 21, but the average amount of underage people who consume alcohol are high by reports from SAMHSA in Nov, 2012. Just on the statistics of alcohol in 2002 and 2003 in Virginia, over a year’s period 433,000 people have alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse. 38,000 of them were of age between 12 through 17. 265,000 were between 18 and 25, had alcohol addiction and abuse,
Addiction to alcohol can cause dependence on the drinker. The consumer will drink greater quantity, and over time part take compulsive behavior. This can also cause changes in thoughts and personality leading in problems at work and home and can cause problems in relationships with family, friends, spouses etc.
