Another way he made money was that a man named joseph l. white led to a battle, which he lost to Vanderbilt and was forced to, by Vanderbilt’s steam ships for an inflated price. Other facts about Vanderbilt were that he died in January 4, 1877 at age 82. He made $105 million in the steam line business. His parents were Cornelius Vanderbilt, and hi mother was Phebe hand.
