ETA Annual Report
I'm enormously proud of the achievements of all of
our 2014 national teams at the European
Championship. Taking 9 playing squads, a team of
referees and a medical team was the largest
contingent we’ve ever taken, which in itself creates
logistical difficulties. A place in every available
category final at the European Touch Championship,
culminated in England coming away with 5 silver
and 4 gold medals along with the open’s, master’s
and overall tournament winners trophies. I have
every faith in the fact that lessons learned in
Swansea and the experiences gained, will stand us
in good stead in the years to come. The team of
people involved in this have progressed the
professionalism of the setup phenomenally and the
results have shown that too.
As an association, we are also heavily invested in
the growth of the sport within England. We have
started developing specialist resources for schools
to deliver Touch in line with the National
Curriculum. We have run more courses, both
coaching and refereeing, than ever before, engaging
new and existing players and clubs into taking that
next step in their progression.
England, as one of the leading and progressive
nations in the Northern Hemisphere, is also
currently involved in numerous global strategies and
commissions. We are part of two hugely important
commissions dedicated to the improvement of the
sport in different areas. These being: FIT Income
Stream Committee, assisting in the strategic
direction of FIT with particular reference to the
financial funding of the Federation and secondly the
Children and Youth Commission providing global
standards in their development including ethics and
codes of conduct for safety, wellbeing and
enjoyment of the sport. We are committed to
paving the way for new generations of the sport,
laying the foundations and making changes for the
future.
