I’ d like to start by giving my deepest respect to anyone who takes on wedding planning— especially those walking down the aisle as well. It amazes me how effortless you make it look. While putting together this edition, there were multiple times I caught myself thinking,“ Maybe it’ s not that hard.” Clearly, my ego is delusional. Still, part of me wonders what it would be like to build an event from the ground up. But that’ s a problem for future me. My own wedding date is nowhere in sight as I’ m more focused on building that strong foundation my partner and I need before saying the famous“ I do.” And, in many ways, that is why this magazine is here— to guide you down the aisle with confidence.
That said, there’ s something bittersweet happening. Wedding magazines are starting to fade, and the last thing we want is to lose the magic of grabbing an issue at your doctor’ s office or local market, flipping through the pages and finding your future wedding inspo. Sure, social media is handy, but nothing compares to tearing out your favorite spreads and pinning them to your mood board. We know planning can feel overwhelming, especially when too many voices try to tell you how your day“ should” look. To that, we say, move out of the way! This is your day. Your celebration. Your relationship. Every trial and triumph has led to this moment where you commit to a lifetime of memories and adventures, so plan it the way you want!
We also know the hardest part is getting started. That’ s why we’ ve got you covered from the beginning. Start with our wedding glossary, where we break down the lingo you’ ll hear throughout the process( page 20 – 21). Feeling creative? Skip to our DIY section for fun projects to personalize your decor( page 24). After the wedding, learn how to preserve your wedding attire( page 30), and stay on track and check off to-do’ s with our full Wedding Countdown checklist( page 31).
Whether you’ re planning to wed in the city, in the garden or by the sea, pull inspiration from our Tips and Trends section( pages 33-50), then find the venue that suits you in our Lovely Locales section( pages 67 – 80). Lastly, don’ t miss the stories from our local couples and see how they planned their special days( pages 83 – 109).
No matter how big or small, extravagant or minimalistic your celebration is, make sure it’ s full of laughs, memories and, of course, love.
xoxo, Alicia Maria Ortiz Alba
While I was at home taking care of our newborn daughter— born in September, the day before my husband and I’ s first wedding anniversary— I left Engaged in the hands of Alicia Maria Ortiz Alba, who pulled out all the stops to fill this year’ s issue with nuptial advice and innovative ideas. The Engaged team hopes you enjoy reading and gathering inspiration from these love-filled pages, and for those who recently wed, we’ d love to hear your story and share it with the world. You may just steer another soon-to-be bride or groom closer to their dream wedding theme.
