Lindsey & Perry

The Venue : The two had initially only joked about getting married in Narragansett because it shares a name with Perry ’ s favorite beer , but when they came across the Towers , things got serious . “ The combination of location , architecture and value couldn ’ t be beat ,” says Lindsey . Plus , it afforded them some fun , traffic-stopping photos underneath the iconic arch .
The Process : After initially preparing for a 2020 date , the couple had to re-plan many aspects of their wedding as a result of the pandemic , including tracking down new vendors . “ We relied heavily on our network because we had to plan everything from our home in Chicago with limited trips to Rhode Island — Perry ’ s Aunt Jer was a huge help in that regard ,” Lindsey says . What remained the same , however , was her desire for the aesthetic be representative of the location without being too on the nose with the nautical theme and , having worked in flower shops throughout high school , to have plenty of beautiful florals . We ’ d say it was a success !
The Forecast : Tropical Storm Henri was due to make landfall that afternoon , much to the couple ’ s concern . “ We didn ’ t know if we could have handled another postponement ,” Lindsey says . Luckily , the storm was quite mild and , “ As much as we worried , seeing the fog as it rolled in from the bay created a great ambience and felt authentically New England , in the way a perfectly sunny day wouldn ’ t have ,” Lindsey says .
The Highlights : “ Mine would be : Walking down Ocean Road in Narragansett on a Saturday in August with four other guys in tuxedos , carrying about twenty boxes of Allie ’ s Donuts to the Towers before the ceremony ; seeing Lindsey at the first look ; and putting a few bottles of birch beer behind the bar for the reception .” — Perry “ I ’ d say seeing all of our friends and family . Because of the pandemic , there were a lot of people we hadn ’ t seen for a long time — many of whom had to travel for the wedding . Everyone was so excited to celebrate . Also , hearing both strangers and our incoming guests clap , cheer and share their best wishes as they walked or drove past during our first look .” — Lindsey
The Meet Cute : Though Lindsey and Perry first met online while he was looking to make connections in preparation for a move to the Midwest , their first in-person encounter had more of a movie-like quality , with T . F . Green Airport acting as their backdrop .
The Engagement : Five years later , Perry pulled off a low-key proposal by surprising Lindsey with the ring while she was doing laundry . “ Then we went out for a very nice dinner that evening ,” Lindsey adds .
The Advice : First and foremost , consider all your options . “ We looked at venues in Chicago originally before deciding on Rhode Island ,” Lindsey explains . She also advises couples give themselves more time than they think they ’ ll need to plan everything out . “ Get in touch with your smaller vendors ( transportation , hotel blocks , etc .) as soon as possible after booking your larger vendors . Start early and you ’ ll be in a better position to handle potential delays or problems .”
