TRAVEL PLANNing Q & A with Don Fuchs Jr., travel advisor at Destination Weddings and Honeymoon Planners When to start planning: Eight to twelve months in advance. The biggest mistake couples make is waiting too late to start the honeymoon search; they wait till the last minute and then realize that their ideal resort or destination is no longer available or has become too costly. What destinations are popular right now? Hawaii is on the rise again, while Fiji, Tahiti PERSONALIZED W edding F avors and Bora Bora are offering great flights and accommodations like over-the-water bungalows. Closer to home, couples have enjoyed exploring islands in the Caribbean, such as Jamaica, Mexico and St. Lucia. What advice would you give to couples planning their honeymoons? Travel when you have the ability and means to do so — there are a multitude of destinations that will fit every month of the year. Just be sure to watch out for hurricane season and peak travel seasons, and always consider travel insurance. Also, consult a romance travel professional. Not only will they help with choosing the right destination and accommodations, but they will also ensure that you get the best value for your budget with the least amount of stress. Make a case for why a couple should consider having a destination wedding. 21 Charles Street | Wakefi eld, 43 Hillside Road (Garden City Ctr.) | Cranston 800.834.3123 | sweenorschocolates.com 28 | RHODE ISLAND MONTHLY'S ENGAGED 2018 When you start planning your wedding budget and you consider all of the different vendors involved, you might find that a destination wedding is less pricey. Most resorts that cater to weddings have special packages with amenities included, and a romance travel professional can secure reduced rates for guests. Destination weddings also often mean fewer guests, which can relate to costs. My favorite spots are Hawaii, the Greek islands (Mykonos or Santorini) and then Mexico and the Caribbean for beach weddings.
