Some of us just love to learn, so why not share that curiosity with your guests as well?
Men, women and children came from all over to work in New England’s nineteenth
century mills, and the Museum of Work and Culture is full of exhibits exploring their
histories. Have your ceremony and/or reception surrounded by the stories of these
hardworking people. 42 South Main St., Woonsocket, 401-769-9675, rihs.org/museums/

If you’re looking for a space with an atypical nautical theme (read: more shipbuilding, less
blue and white stripes), New Bedford Whaling Museum has everything you’ll need. Their
Bourne Building houses the Lagoda, a.k.a. the world’s largest model ship and resident
newlywed portrait backdrop. The museum itself is also open to guests who would like
to learn about New England’s rich whaling history while sipping drinks during cocktail
hour. 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford, MA, 508-997-0046, whalingmuseum.org.
A library wedding is any bibliophile’s dream, and you can’t find a more beautiful,
bookish venue than the Providence Public Library. Wed in its garden courtyard or
grand hall for a regal look or achieve a cozier atmosphere in its Rhode Island Room.

It doesn’t get more elegant than a giant, stately mansion, folks.
A three story Greek Revival mansion circa 1905, Edgewood Manor is certainly
one of the most extravagant bed and breakfasts around. Whether you want
an intimate ceremony surrounded by antiques and stained glass in the main
house or a large upscale party on its spacious grounds, the manor can host a
variety of wedding types. Even better, each of its eighteen lavishly decorated
bedrooms exudes pure romance. 232 Norwood Ave., Providence, 401-781-0099,

Many couples are first charmed by Aldrich Mansion’s grand architecture,
glittering decor and magnificent views, but it’s the exceptional service that stays
with them long after the rings have been exchanged. The venue’s chef dazzles
all with his delectable cuisine and the staff’s high quality service is reminiscent
of a time when butlers ruled the great houses of the Gilded Age. 836 Warwick
Neck Ave., Warwick, 739-6850, ext. 102, aldrichmansion.com.
Linden Place has hosted a number of presidents and high profile names over
the years, so it’s safe to say that they know how to give guests the celebrity
treatment and make them feel both special and comfortable. Wed here and
you’ll have access to their historic mansion circa 1810, the splendid carriage
house ballroom and the adjacent tented courtyard complete with a romantic
rose garden. 500 Hope St., Bristol, 401-253-0390, lindenplace.org.
Home to Newport’s largest ballroom and a heart-shaped staircase, it’s no wonder
Rosecliff was a premier gathering spot in the late nineteenth century. Nowadays
the mansion’s grand architecture and waterfront location have allowed it to
remain a fairytale-worthy setting. 548 Bellevue Ave., Newport, 401-847-1000,
