Editor’ s letter
2008 is promising to be an exciting and challenging year as we try to monitor and measure progress.
Our first challenge was to get a sense of how many BAME and other minority-owned enterprises had been successful in securing contracts relating to 2012, during 2007.
The question was posed to three of the main business support / development agencies / committees in London responsible for highlighting these contracts. The responses were both amusing and varied;“ I’ ll get back to you”” That may not be as easy as it seems”“ Why do you want to know.” Unfortunately, at the time of going to press, no one has been able to provide a ballpoint figure on who is winning contracts. Does this mean that no minority-owned business has so far secured a contract or does it mean the tracking systems that should be in place to monitor diversity and ethnicity are failing?
The bottom line is- we won’ t know if we’ ve made progress if we can’ t measure it!
we are looking forward to forming new business partnerships this year with networks who can really help, support and deliver contracts, and finally to say a big thank you to Merrill Lynch who hosted the last in our series of networking events for 2007. this took place on 5th December at their London head office – a fabulous turn out with over 80 BAMe enterprises in attendance.
i look forward to receiving your comments and contributions.
