64 CORPORATE OBJECTIVES

Haringey Business Development Agency

There are also plans to recruit a 2012 procurement adviser who will be responsible for investigating contract opportunities and communicating these to HBDA clients.
Future plans Not content to rest on its laurels, the future looks bright for HBDA. In addition to continuing its crusade to become the premier Enterprise Development Agency that adequately caters for the needs of BAME businesses in London and throughout the UK, HBDA has some ambitious future plans. Moves are still afoot to open an Enterprise Village in North London that will provide workspace, hot desks, and single business gateway systems. HBDA is intent on looking for business opportunities anywhere in the world where it can share the benefits of its business development and regeneration experience with others. Given the growing number and the significance of African-owned businesses, HBDA in conjunction with Ben TV and the London Vocational Management Training School recently spearheaded the setting up of the African Business Forum. This Forum will champion support for Africanowned businesses and promote trade between London, the EU and African countries. A subsidiary company was recently set up in Nigeria, which will take part in the delivery of the World’ s Business
Development Service Programme( BDS). HBDA has also recently submitted an application to deliver a business development / poverty alleviation programme on behalf of the Commonwealth Business Council. In November 2006, HBDA’ s Chief Executive, Dr Akpan, was invited to join the NEPAD- Nigeria Think Tank Expert panel to contribute to City / Economic Development strategies.

BE A WINNING BUSINESS

TENDER TO WIN What is the Procurement Development Programme( PDP)?

It is a unique innovative pan London programme sponsored by the Greater London Authority and the London Development Agency to assist more SMEs and BAME businesses in the capital to win more contracts from the public sector. The programme has been implemented in three phase consisting of research, training, mentoring and advice. Through research, we now have a better understanding of impediments faced by SMES and BAME businesses when tendering for public sector contracts. Through this understanding we have designed a bespoke procurement skills development and mentoring support programme to address these tendering Impediments.
Since it launch in 2005, the Programme has achieved the following:
n Research 3000 London Businesses, examining specific barriers facing these businesses in tendering for contracts n Over 500 businesses have benefited from procurement skills development training n 200 companies have benefited from one to one mentoring and advice n 20 companies are currently supported through quality accreditation n Produced and distributed tendering documents / policy templates on CD n Developed a programme on partnership / consortium formation n Developed a programme on Internal Quality Management systems n Assist businesses to access capital to finance contracts n Assist with tender preparation and contracts negotiations
As 75 % of the Programme activities are directed at BAME owned businesses, PDP would become key and pivotal to BAME groups being able to successfully tender for London 2012 contracts.
