DISTANCE LEARNING: STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
Ms. Earley-Alves shares a screenshot of one of her weekly
videos recorded for her Art classes. Students watch her
instructional videos in Microsoft Teams.
ENGAGING ACTIVITIES
students reveal that it is “virtually” impossible
to slow the flow of activities while learning from a distance!
If you take a look at some English “classrooms” during this
time of distance EHS learning, you might be surprised to see
many students still participating in school clubs, engaging in
class discussions, or checking in during
“Eagle Block” just to maintain contact and
chat with peers about sports, current
events, and other topics of interest.
Says Mr. Mazzone, It's just good to catch
up and talk and see faces.
Mr. Mazzone also encourages student
voice through the EHS student newspaper,
The Eagle Flyer. Writing submissions are
currently being accepted! Details are available through any
English teacher.
During a recent “virtual” meet
of the diversity club with Mr.
Paradis, students watched a short
podcast on current events
surrounding the COVID-19
national shutdown. Drawing from
this and other information, the group discussed how news that
comes at us must be carefully considered.
Mr. Paradis said, I was very impressed with how students
responded to the (video news) story and expanded with their own
experiences and drew from material they had read/heard/watched on
their own.
In addition to weekly academic virtual class meetings and online
posted assignments, teachers are maintaining the same social activities
students have looked forward to since the beginning of the school
year!
Students in Miss Lindhardt class are learning about
Astronomy by viewing her videos on YouTube. They
watch and listen as she explains the content and
expectations for each benchmark. Congratulations to
Miss Lindhardt on her recent marriage! She is now Mrs.
McKale!
