ESV appoints new general managers

ESV has appointed two new general managers for its gas and electrical divisions .
Ian Burgwin has been appointed as GM Electrical Safety and Technical Regulation after holding the position of Manager Practice and Quality in ESV ’ s Electrical Infrastructure Division .
Prior to joining ESV in 2014 , Ian consulted to the energy industry after working as a senior manager in the electricity industry in Australia , New Zealand , Africa and the UK , including the National Grid Company PLC .
Ian ’ s energy career has spanned more than 40 years and included leading teams in the areas of maintenance , commissioning , operations and emergency preparedness .
Ian served as a senior manager responsible for the asset management and asset maintenance practice of the New Zealand transmission network . He was the Operations Director during the approval , construction and commissioning of the Basslink interconnector and has fulfilled similar roles in Africa and the UK .
Steve Cronin has been appointed GM Gas and Pipeline Safety and Technical Regulation after holding the position of Acting Executive Manager Gas and Pipeline Infrastructure Safety and substantively , Head of Business Strategy at ESV .
Prior to joining ESV in 2012 , Steve worked in a number of senior planning and systems roles covering gas and electricity at AEMO , Vencorp and , prior to that , asset strategy and head of investor relations at a UK generator and various commercial and engineering roles with National Power and National Grid ( UK ).
ESV has appointed Ian Burgwin ( above ) to lead its electricity division and Steve Cronin to lead the gas division .

Safety report on electricity networks released

ESV has released its sixth annual safety report into Victoria ’ s major electricity companies ( MECs ).
The report covers the 18-month period from January 2015 to June 2016 . It includes the five distribution businesses ( AusNet Services , CitiPower , Jemena , Powercor and United Energy ) and the three transmission businesses ( AusNet Services , Basslink and Transmission Operations Australia ).
The report analyses the performance of each MEC while looking for common themes relevant to industry .
While highlighting the performance of the networks since the last report in 2014 , this sixth report also includes more discussion about emerging issues for the electricity industry that will need to be addressed in the future . ESV anticipates the network environment will change dramatically in the coming decade .
ESV is currently working with the distribution businesses regarding improving data analysis in support of future network reports .
