Generators

Wind turbines use generated kinetic energy harnessed from the wind, similar technology are used to harness the motion of waves. For hydropower, potential energy is stored in the water that is dammed, when the water reservoir is released, it is converted to kinetic energy. The falling water turns the blades which are attached to a shaft; the shaft connects to a generator which converts the turbine’s mechanical energy into electric energy.
