STRUCTURE AND MATERIALS
As Knight and Lee is an iconic building and part of Portsmouth’ s history. I will not alter the signage on the building to pay homage to its past. I intend to revive the original appearance but maintain the aspects that attribute to the building’ s history. The structure of the building includes a column grid structure, with the columns approximately 5.6 m apart. The voids in the structure can be altered along the grid structure. The south side currently has two front entrances and two sets of staircases. I intend to add a back entrance for use of service and food deliveries etc.
The materiality of the building is a concrete grid structure with brick and glass cladding. The facades of the building have a canopy and columns that protrude out of the building. I do not intend to change these drastically as the facade is an iconic part of the building.
