When choosing my building I narrowed
it down between Sally Port Hotel and
the Knight and Lee building. These
were the most apt choice because they have
good transport links such as bus stops nearby
and are a good size for the different spaces I
need in my design.
I have chosen Knight and Lee over Sally Port
because it is a much larger building so will have
sufficient space for the rooms that my design
requires.
It is also in close proximity to other performing
arts/dance buildings in Portsmouth such as
the King’s Theatre and Drift - a salsa and latin
nightclub. TV and broadcast students could
also benefit from this space by filming some of
the live performances to practice their technical
skills. Palmerston road is about a 15 minute walk
to Eldon building so is very easy for students to
get to. The Portsmouth Student Union also has
many clubs such as dance society, tap dance,
pole fitness and cuban salsa. These currently
operate in the student union however the
studios are quite small and having a larger
dance space can mean more students can
participate in each class.
I
have chosen to use the south side of the
building in order to benefit from the
sunlight. The entrance on this side is also
minutes away from the bus stop and taxi rank
so is very accessible. Sunlight pouring into the
dance studios will make it a more inviting place
to hold classes.
