endangered animal species VOL. 1 | Page 2

When man arrived on the scene, relatively recently, the delicate faunal links that had long been in nature began to break and be altered.l

The extinction of some animals or the critical state of others, by the action of man, has been recorded by some authors such as Heim (1952) who mentions, among other definitively missing species, the gigantic ostrich moa (Dinornis ingens) from New Zealand.

The extinction of fauna has serious repercussions on ecosystems, especially with regard to food and food chains. In most cases, of the missing species there was not enough information about their role in the different ecosystems in which they participated.

Since its origins, animals have been in competition to survive. In addition, constant changes in the environment have resulted in the disappearance of some species and the flowering of others.
