The beginnings of organized enterostomal therapy (ET)were founded in Cleveland (USA) in 1950. In Croatia, the first example of organized ET has begun in UHC Sisters of Mercy at the Department of Surgery in 2010.WOCN / enterostomal therapist has special knowledge and skills. In the field of wound care for WOCN disposed ( it takes care for) decubitus, venous ulcer, neuropathic ulcer, draining wounds, traumatic wounds and acute surgical wounds. Urinary and fecal incontinence includes management of muscle and nerve dysfunction, infections, surgical interventions, failure of the sphincter and psychologically conditioned incontinence. WOCN uses specific knowledges and tools in assessing and monitoring of nutritional status and support in order to adequately taking care of problematic wounds, ostomis and fistuls. It conducts healthcare education of patients, family members and community. It connects the systems of primary and tertiary levels based on the best clinical practice and scientific evidence/results. The specialization program acts on two educational levels: Bachelor nurse (students will gain the specific new compe tencies) and Magister of nursing (educational outcome of Advanced practice nursing - APRNS) .ICN defines advanced nurse practitioner (APRNS) as a registered nurse who has acquired expert knowledges and skills, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice whose characteristics are conditioned by country in which she/he is registered for their activities. Educational basis are Universities and University Hospital Centers. Such levels of health care for patients, maks multiple benefits to the individual, the health system overall and the community.
