However, over the years, bacteria have acquired resistance to antibiotics Aim: The purpose of this retrospective study is to highlight some important information about the abuse of antibiotics medicine. Review Methods: Extensive review of the recent literature was conducted in electronic database Medline and via the link of the Greek Association of Academic Libraries (HEAL-Link), using the following key words: ethics, antibiotics medicine, rational use. Results: Already by the 1990s, antimicrobial resistance was recognized as a serious threat to public health. The resistance of pathogenic microorganisms to antibiotics not only a problem for the patient, but also for the environment as the members of the household are populated by the same pathogen and are more likely to become ill due to this From 2008 at the European level with the establishment of November 18 as "Day of Awareness for the Rational Use of Antibiotics", made concerted efforts in the context of information campaigns aimed at rationalizing and reducing over- consumption of antimicrobial agents via: a) The administration of antimicrobials both in community and inpatient based guidelines regarding the right choice at the right dosage and duration of administration b) Compliance with the rules of good chemoprophylaxis (proper selection and immediate stop after the recommended interval) Conclusions: The rational use of antibiotics can reduce antibiotic resistance. Mobilize sooner the better chances we have to reduce the problem of resistance in time and more efficiently. 41 |
