C’est avec enthousiasme et fierté que j’ai accepté, à titre de Président-directeur général de l’Association
de l’aluminium du Canada (AAC), de préfacer l’édition 2013 de l’Encyclopédie de la recherche sur
l’aluminium au Québec.
L’Encyclopédie en est à sa 10e édition et elle regroupe les travaux qui ont été présentés lors de
la Journée des étudiants du REGAL, le 22 octobre 2013, dans le cadre de la première Conférence
internationale de l’aluminium du Canada (CIAC), dont l’Association de l’aluminium du Canada était
l’hôte.
Référence dans le domaine, l’Encyclopédie est utilisée par l’industrie de la production et de la
transformation de l’aluminium dans le monde. Il y a maintenant dix ans que les étudiants du REGAL
présentent les résultats de leurs travaux de recherche aux industriels, chercheurs et autres étudiants.
Comme pour la plupart des secteurs, la force et le succès de l’industrie résident dans sa capacité à
innover; ainsi, les chercheurs de classe mondiale dont les réalisations sont mises en évidence dans
cet ouvrage, jouent un rôle prépondérant à cet égard.
Au fil des ans, ces scientifiques et ingénieurs ont apporté des contributions ma jeures à l’amélioration
des procédés de production et à l’accroissement des utilisations de l’aluminium et de ses alliages. Il
en résulte une amélioration constante des procédés innovants.
Félicitations aux chercheurs dont les travaux sont présentés dans cet ouvrage. Leurs percées
continueront d’assurer un brillant avenir à l’industrie.

on Aluminium in Quebec.

This 10th edition of the Encyclopaedia is a compilation of the research work that was presented at
the REGAL Students Day on 22 October 2013 as part of the first Canadian International Aluminium
Conference (CIAC), hosted by the Aluminium Association of Canada.
The Encyclopaedia, a reference in the field, is used by the aluminium production and fabrication
industry worldwide. For ten years now, the student members of REGAL have been presenting the
results of their research work to manufacturers, researchers and other students in this publication.
As is true in most fields, the strength and success of the industry reside in its capacity to innovate,
and the world-class researchers whose work is highlighted in this publication play a significant role
in this regard.
Over the years, these scientists and engineers have made ma jor contributions to the improvement of
production processes and the expansion of the applications of aluminium and its alloys. The result is
constant improvement of innovative processes.
Congratulations to the researchers whose works are presented in this publication. Their discoveries
will continue to ensure a bright future for the industry.
