4.) What in your opinion are some of the main differences
between Millennials and previous generations as it relates to
sports/ business?
Biggest difference between millennials and previous
generations as it relates to sports is a difference in both the
mental and the physical. For example we’ve thrown away the
belief that sprinters must be small and muscular, Usain Bolt
smashed that belief. We have for the most part passed the
historical belief of certain races can only do this or that. We
have begun to believe that anything is possible, despite col-
our, race or religion.
5.) Lightning round:
Coke or Sprite? I love both
Vanilla or Chocolate? definitely Vanilla
Hunter or Gatherer? Gatherer
Favourite Bajan sweet treat? I love Tamarind syrup
Facebook or Instagram? definitely Instagram
6.) What has your sports journey/ personal brand taught
you about life?
AKELA JONES
My personal journey has taught me to be resilient, even
when times get hard. I’ve always embraced the journey. I love
the victories and the sorrows, the great times and the un-
planned moments. Each moment is special and each one
comes with its pros and cons.
7.) So what is new in your career?
Getting Healthy and expanding my other brand “Edged x
Echelon” those are my career goals right now.
1.) Who is Akela Jones in sports/ business (describe) ?
Akela Jones is an aspiring and futuristic individual. She
loves to think and believe outside the box and norm. She is
ever inspiring both for self and for others. She aspires to be
an Olympic champion at the 2020 Tokyo Games. As a brand
ambassador for Chefette and Sports icon for Barbados she
feeds off making people believe in themselves; eventually
making Barbados, and the world, a better place.
8.) What is next for Akela Jones?
Steadily climbing the ladder of success is my main focus
right now. This includes staying humble and mapping out my
Olympic Gold journey towards the 2020 Olympic Games in
Tokyo.
2. ) What inspired you to first pursue your sports career?
My sports career first began with self-belief. Seeing that
I was good at what I do, I gave a full shot to make it to the
pinnacle of the sports around age thirteen with the help of
coaches and selfless mentors who make my journey a mem-
orable, worthy, and enjoyable one.
3. What are some of the best lessons you have learned
about being a personal brand/ business owner in Barbados?
Most important has got to be that I cannot do it myself.
This journey is only a reality because of the help of many self-
less individuals, such as my coaches, teammates, and many
other individuals, I keep stressing and believing more and
more that I cannot and will not do it alone.
