Biggest difference between millennials and previous generations as it relates to sports is a difference in both the mental and the physical. For example we’ve thrown away the belief that sprinters must be small and muscular, Usain Bolt smashed that belief. We have for the most part passed the historical belief of certain races can only do this or that. We have begun to believe that anything is possible, despite col- our, race or religion. 5.) AKELA JONES My personal journey has taught me to be resilient, even when times get hard. I’ve always embraced the journey. I love the victories and the sorrows, the great times and the un- planned moments. Each moment is special and each one comes with its pros and cons. 7.) So what is new in your career? Getting Healthy and expanding my other brand “Edged x Echelon” those are my career goals right now. 1.) Who is Akela Jones in sports/ business (describe) ? Akela Jones is an aspiring and futuristic individual. She loves to think and believe outside the box and norm. She is ever inspiring both for self and for others. She aspires to be an Olympic champion at the 2020 Tokyo Games. As a brand ambassador for Chefette and Sports icon for Barbados she feeds off making people believe in themselves; eventually making Barbados, and the world, a better place. 8.) What is next for Akela Jones? Steadily climbing the ladder of success is my main focus right now. This includes staying humble and mapping out my Olympic Gold journey towards the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. 2. ) What inspired you to first pursue your sports career? My sports career first began with self-belief. Seeing that I was good at what I do, I gave a full shot to make it to the pinnacle of the sports around age thirteen with the help of coaches and selfless mentors who make my journey a mem- orable, worthy, and enjoyable one. 3. What are some of the best lessons you have learned about being a personal brand/ business owner in Barbados? Most important has got to be that I cannot do it myself. This journey is only a reality because of the help of many self- less individuals, such as my coaches, teammates, and many other individuals, I keep stressing and believing more and more that I cannot and will not do it alone.
