kind of bridge that gap between people and different styles of
fitness. So, in essence, I’m giving you so many options that
you don’t have an excuse not to exercise!
3. What are some of the best lessons that you’ve
learned about being an entrepreneur in Barbados?
I’ve learned to:
1.) Never give up – That everything worth having takes
work.
2.) Listen and do your research - Check your demo-
graphic by doing thorough market research to find out what
they like.
3.) Watch your circle – Find people who can help you
with your journey and that you can also reciprocate with be-
cause you don’t want a one-sided relationship with anyone.
4. What in your opinion are some of the main differences
between millennials and previous generations as it relates to
business?
Thorn Wood
1.
Who is Thorn Wood in business?
Describe yourself.
I would say that I’m not your traditional business person.
I’m very unorthodox, outgoing and forward thinking. So, in
terms of business, I am a big vision kind of guy - I’m very
open-minded in terms of where I want to go, always thinking
about what I want to accomplish six to ten years later down
the road, continued wealth, and really pushing the envelope
in terms of entrepreneurship.
2.
What first inspired you to start CaliFit246?
I started out really for the dance. When I started out danc-
ing initially, the person who was managing the group I was
in at the time, he was into personal training and he would
mentor us a bit to use some basic kinesiology, and he saw
that I had a keen interest in it. Through that, through dancing,
I started parkour as well and parkour kind of leaned me into
doing calisthenics which is the urban term for a street work-
out, so that basically is like gymnastics, conditioning, and
some other styles. I started leaning more towards that but
then I wanted to broaden the spectrum and reach different
demographics, because I teach both gymnastics and dance.
So I wanted CaliFit246 to be kind of like a formless type of fit-
ness that could engage so many different demographics and

To me, this question is defined by success. With previ-
ous generations like my grandparents and so on and so forth,
their definition of success was family, house, car, land, be-
cause the latter three, were probably things that their parents
never had. For us Millennials, it’s kind of like a double-edged
sword because there’s so many different types of income and
opportunities that you can easily be a Jack of all trades and
a master of none. So, I would also say the opportunities are
different. Like for instance, I’m pretty sure in the early 60’s, if
I had told my father that I wanted to be a dancer, it would’ve
seemed crazy to him.. So back then, they would’ve had a more
linear type of thinking in that, “My father has never owned a
house, let me own a house, let me get a family, and let me get
a car, let me get these tangible things that define success as
a man or a woman.” Then, as time progressed, and more op-
portunities were created, creativity kind of pushed Millennials
into a different atmosphere.

Chocolate or Vanilla? both

Favourite Bajan sweet treat? That’s a toss-up between

6. What has your business taught you about life?
It has taught me:
1.) To not be lazy, you know, people have that saying that
good things come to those who wait. Don’t take that too lit-
erally - you’ll need to actively try to access these things that
you want. Actively try to get stuff done. For some reason, and
that’s a problem I have with some millennials. I think, they
think that some things happen by osmosis, and wait for them
to happen but you, you just – well, I’ll keep it simple - just be
active, just be active and progressive. I mean there may be
