INSTITUTE
Time to give THANKS
In this ever-expanding world of encaustic/wax endeavors, I am
appreciative and grateful to be positioned with a unique over-view of the
cutting edge wave of creativity. Our cover artist, Dylan Gebbia-Richards,
works encaustic on a grand scale, wowing our senses and giving us an
almost virtual experience. I am grateful for the artists who give their time
each and every issue to write and share their work and experiences with
us. At the Museum of Encaustic Art, and the Encaustic Art Institute here
in Santa Fe, NM, it is a pleasure every day to open boxes of work juried
in to exhibitions or the museum. New and wonderful ways to apply and
manipulate wax, with leading-edge combinations of mediums reflecting
the creative out-breath of each and every individual artist. In addition,
the encaustic/wax suppliers make it possible for everyone to find their
means to work their magic and provide the best in workshops. Artists all
over the world dedicate themselves to teaching through their studios or
online. Often I have visitors who tell me they learned about encaustic
online and are self-taught through these instructional videos. We all come
together to make this community of encaustic/wax artists cohesive.
A
special thanks goes to Kari Gorden for her 9 years as editor, making the
Encaustic Art Magazine what it is today. THANK YOU, for the now
thousands of artists that have been dedicated to the support of the
Encaustic Art Institute, the Museum of Encaustic Art and Encaustic Arts
Magazine. A round of applause for all of us.
In this issue we also give special recognition for an encaustic artist who is
no longer with us, but who leaves an indelible footprint in the lives of
many, Anne Smidt. Click here to read the article about Anne.
Looking forward to a very creative 2020,
