“ You were born with wings , why prefer to crawl through life ?”
— -Rūmī
Never before have I felt more alive as I do now living an art-filled life in which I am continually inspired and surrounded by art lovers and art makers ! It is a passion . It is a lifestyle . It is a feeling of completeness . It is being filled with gratitude .
I have been a full-time artist since my children were small and although I juggle motherhood and an art career , I have somehow found a way to make it all work . Many of my friends are curious as to how I do it all , and I am always happy to share my thoughts on ‘ creating a life of art ’. Focus and dedication to your art are probably the biggest first steps that any artist can take . Currently I am represented by six fabulous galleries across the country as well as owning my own contemporary gallery in Door County , Wisconsin . This is in addition to having a dedicated studio practice . I have to say BALANCE is part of the equation as well . I learned many years ago that If I was going to choose art as a career , it was important to actually be working in the studio ! Although I feel that ‘ play in life ’ is important , I remember to keep my studio time at the forefront . I have two studios and each is set up for painting at any given moment . My Michigan studio is quiet , serene and peaceful with a few good distractions such as friends , family , my horses and nature . It is a large space attached to my home where the majority of my large works are created . The gallery I own in Wisconsin is where I have a separate smaller studio which sits high above the water on a bluff in the treetops . I find inspiration and joy in each of these places and have created environments where I have ‘ no excuses ’ for why I can ’ t create art .
