Paula Busch has been creating art for more than 50 years and has exhibited regionally and nationally . She has been accepted into many juried shows and has had more than a dozen one-person exhibitions . After receiving a Fine Arts degree from U . C . Berkeley , Paula completed an MA in printmaking at CSU Chico . For the past several years , she has been working in the Encaustic medium , a process using hot wax with resin and pigment .
Her current series is called “ Endangered Species ”. The images resemble jellyfish although they are a total improvisation of such creatures . After some experimentation using a big variety of alcohol ink colors , she chose to steer into a more monochromatic look using just five neutral ink colors . The subjects are striking on a pure white Encaustic background . The paintings are on panel board painted with white gesso and then coated with several coats of clear wax medium followed by two layers of titanium white encaustic . All pieces are 24 ” x 16 ”. The frames are hand-made by the artist .
Paula has been affiliated with a large network of local artists , has taught studio classes at Butte College for 27 years , was chair of the Chico Arts Commission and is currently president of the Turner Print Museum Board at CSU Chico .
